Sash Windows

  • Bring modern performance into your project without compromising its traditional charm. Our sliding sash windows come with all the benefits of modern window design. Whilst sash windows have been a sharp choice for many centuries, they were traditionally made single-glazed and timber-framed which don’t perform as well as our new technology.

Don’t settle for installations which rattle, stick, let in draughts and let out heat. Our sash windows give you better with a smooth glide operating system you will fall in love with. The two window panes are designed with inward-tilting options for safe cleaning. Our windows are suitable for conservation properties, too.

Sash windows have an irresistible external appearance and excellent ventilation that make them an eternally popular choice. Have these well-deserved elements in your project with modern, professionally-made sash windows.

Are uPVC sash windows any good?

UPVC is a widely-used material due to its durability and versatility, though initially was not known for being aesthetically pleasing. Over the years, however, uPVC has improved in its look and can be made with finishes that are almost indistinguishable from a freshly-painted wooden sash window, just without the maintenance required.

These frames give you a cost-effective benefit too, being cheaper than wooden frames yet sustaining high-quality finishes. UPVC sash windows are easy to manage as they are not difficult to clean and don’t require a yearly sanding or coat of paint to keep them looking fresh.

How do you measure a sash window?

Sash windows can be measured for width by measuring from one side of the window to the other within the box frame. This excludes the width of the box the window sits in.

Sash window height is measured by measuring both sashes from top to bottom. Measure inside the box frame to ensure accuracy.

Measure from the top of the window frame way down to the windowsill to measure box frame height.

Note that the box frame width includes the whole window frame.

Are uPVC or aluminium windows better?

UPVC sash windows are the most budget-friendly option, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise. UPVC does not require rigorous upkeep – just a wipe – and is strong, sturdy and highly resistant.

Due to its extremely robust material, aluminium sash windows are pricier than uPVC. As they are stronger than uPVC, they are perfect for smaller window frames as they can support a larger glass surface area. Aluminium sash windows may be best for you if you desire more light into your interiors or a great view.

Can sash windows be double glazed?

UPVC sash windows allow for you to upgrade your window to double or triple glazing, giving you extra insulation. These glazing options work by trapping gas between the glass so cold air struggles to get in whilst warm air cannot escape.

As one of the most cost-effective options, uPVC sash windows remain among the cheapest options out there. Get double glazing for your sash windows at a reduced price by choosing uPVC.

How does a window sash work?

Sash windows consist of two or more panels with those panels able to move vertically up or down. Single-hung sash windows have one moving panel. For those who would like increased airflow, double-hung sash windows allow the top and bottom panels to move to give you more air into your project.

Sash windows are integrated with a pulley system that has one window on the end of the cord and a counterweight on the other one to balance them. This means your window will not shut on itself if you let go of the sash. Simply, the pane remains still when you slide the window open, rather than sliding back into the casing.

Which part of the window is the sash?

The window sash refers to the section that holds the glass pane, sitting within the window frame. Sashes vary with the type of window you have installed. With double-hung windows you’ll have two sashes that move up and down. Single-hung windows have a single moveable sash and a separate static sash.
