Replacement Conservatory Roofs

  • Time to refresh your current conservatory? Do you find it hard to get the right temperature in there? Perhaps you want to update some features at a fraction of the cost of a full replacement? At Crown Commercial Windows, we can help you achieve your perfect conservatory according to your budget and specifications.

Modern, better insulated, multi-chambered Polycarbonate is a great way to upgrade your existing conservatory roof — it’s also the most cost-effective option. Once installed, you can expect a warmer conservatory in the winter months and enjoy a pleasantly cool temperature in the summer months — all without the hassle of planning a completely new conservatory.

Replacing your conservatory roof with glass can maximise its performance significantly. Our high-performing glass now reflects up to 78% of the sun’s heat, whilst simultaneously bringing U-values as low as 0.8 — a very insulative level. This allows you to achieve the cool summer and warm winter you have always wished for.

At Crown Commercial Windows, glass is made to be self-cleaning so you will never have to spend another day rigorously wiping or cashing out for a window cleaner. As the glass has a thin titanium dioxide coating which flattens the surface to keep dirt from sticking, it’s an incredibly low-maintenance option that’s well worth the investment. When it rains, water runs off the coating before droplets even have time to form.

The inclusion of a UV filter within the coating of the glass also breaks down any organic dirt that slowly forms, which will then wash off with natural rainfall.

If you are seeking a conservatory that gives you all-round benefit, we recommend full or partially tiled solutions. If you go down this route, our lightweight structure and tiles can be retro fitted as they often weigh less than an existing glass roof. What’s more, with our Livin Roof and Ultrasky products you can choose which panels you’d like to be glazed according to how much light (and heat) you’d like to let into your conservatory.

Common Questions

Can I replace my conservatory roof with a tiled roof?

If your conservatory has had a glass or polycarbonate roof for a number of years, you may appreciate the difference of a tiled roof. Conservatories are more than capable of carrying a tiled roof as these roofs are very light weight — even lighter than many classic glass roofs.

In order to carry out this replacement, we’ll need to inspect your existing structure to ensure that it has the proper support in place. Most of the time, the structure is fine and work can go ahead. If your conservatory meets current building regulations you won’t even need planning permission. We will make your tiled roof to the size of your conservatory and can even install a few roof windows if you’d like to keep some of the glass.

Do I need to replace my conservatory roof?

Your conservatory roof doesn’t have a strict best-before date. Rather, there are telltale signs of wear, tear, and old age to look out for. These signs include:

  • Moss and algae growth on the roof

  • Increased noise pollution

  • Draught or coldness

  • Ineffective energy efficiency

Roofs will age differently depending on where you live and the natural elements it’s often exposed to. This being said, conservatory roofs over 15 years-old are more likely to present issues.

If you think your conservatory roof is showing one or more of these signs, contact us to chat about your options.

Does insulating a conservatory roof work?

If you’ve noticed your conservatory roof doesn’t do a very good job at retaining heat, you might want to insulate it. However, at Crown Commercial Windows we don’t offer this option to our customers as it isn’t efficient or long-lasting. Instead, we offer thermally efficient glass or tiled roofing as alternatives which come with a 10-year warranty. Please get in touch for further information.

What is the best roof for a conservatory?

There are lots of options available to you if you’re looking to change up your roof’s material. Polycarbonate is your cheapest option but it isn’t so longlasting. At Crown Commercial Windows, we can offer you a toughened glass roof for your conservatory which has much better durability.

We can also treat the glass to make it more insulative and effective at reducing glare from the sun. Fancy a bit more shade? Tiled roofing is a brilliant move and can be used in conjunction with lantern roofing or roof windows to still allow some light to shine through. We would need to inspect your roof before installation to see if your existing roof bars are strong enough to take the weight of the glass, and if the roof is all that is being changed, we need to see if top caps are available.
