Lantern Roof Conservatories
Experience the grandeur and elegance of our lantern roof conservatories, bringing you a modern aesthetic and the practical space your project needs.
Lantern roof conservatories consist of two tiers of conservatory roof constructed on different levels — sometimes referred to as a ‘wedding cake’ effect. This clever use of levels creates a brilliant dynamic to your conservatory roof. Much like a wedding cake, the final product will be a stunning one.
The lantern roof conservatory has a distinctive heritage look, making it a great option for period properties. If you are not seeking heritage style, we can achieve another appearance that matches your project.
Uplift your living space with cascades of natural light, regardless of the weather. The lantern roof conservatory promises a bright day every day, giving you the space you have always wished for.
Whether you want to add to an existing conservatory or build a lantern roof conservatory from scratch, our conservatories are always made to the highest standard and fitted by our team of expert installers.
10-year manufacturer’s guarantee.
Classic windows tailor made to your exact specifications.
A Lantern Roof conservatory uses fewer bars to let in even more light. With an extended eaves beam, rather than a flat roof, the internal pelmet and external cornice create a stunning orangery roof style.
A decorative cornice is used outside to hide the guttering and create beautiful sight lines.
The internal insulated pelmet will enable you to enjoy better lighting and thermal performance. You can even opt for integrated spotlights and speakers to enhance your experience.

What is a lantern roof conservatory?
Avoid the commitment of full glass with a beautiful lantern roof conservatory and see your whole project open up to the sun. A lantern roof is a rectangular space in your ceiling with glass panes in the middle that are perfectly pitched to emulate a roof shape. If you’d like one in an existing room in your house, it can be done as long as it currently has a flat roof. Alternatively, you can get one as part of a solid-roofed conservatory extension. Any guttering will be hidden by a decorative cornice, giving you a stunning view of the sky above.
Do roof lanterns let in more light?
Roof lanterns let lots of natural light into the project. Even on days that aren’t so sunny, you can rely on your roof lantern to provide you with light until dusk. Roof lanterns provide three times more light than conventional windows do (depending on the size you choose), so light really shouldn’t be a concern. You don’t need to worry about heat either, as we offer glass options which prevent UV rays from entering the room and damaging your furnishings. Additionally, we can install glass with a slight tint to reduce glare from the sun.
Do roof lanterns lose heat?
Roof lanterns do tend to lose slightly more heat in comparison to a tiled and insulated roof. Nevertheless, at Crown Commercial Windows we work hard to make sure all our double glazed glass is as thermally efficient as possible. For even more insulation, you can always opt for triple glazing. What’s more, every roof lantern will have an insulated pelmet to reduce heat loss as much as possible, making them an extremely energy efficient way to let light into your house.
How do you clean a roof lantern?
Roof lanterns tend to be placed quite high up, so it may be an idea to use long handled products to clean them. Soapy water is sufficient to eliminate any debris which may have gathered on the glass. We recommend cleaning your roof windows when the sun isn’t out as it can cause the glass to dry too quickly, resulting in streaks.
Saying this, if you are worried about cleaning your roof lantern manually, we can offer self-cleaning glass to save you time and energy. If you feel your project could benefit from a roof lantern with self-cleaning glass, contact us today to learn more.
