French doors are a fantastic way to open up your indoor space to the outdoors. By allowing light to flood into your room, French doors create the illusion of a more spacious indoors. There’s no doubt about it, they’re the perfect way to brighten up your house.
We manufacture all of our products ourselves so that we can ensure everything is made to the highest possible standard. Choose from an exciting selection of designs and finishes to complete your French doors.
Traditionally, French doors can swing wide open. However, due to the talent of our craftsman, we can fit your doors with restrictors that will hold them open at any angle you please. This will prevent a gust of wind from slamming the doors. French doors are highly versatile and work well as entries for your conservatory, garden or patio. Admire your outside view no matter the weather with French doors.

Are French doors always double?
French doors consist of two doors within the same frame, without a disruptive pillar that would hinder your view or access. Although they are within the same frame, you can still choose to only open one door.
At Crown Commercial Windows, we only provide double French doors. However, if you have a single door frame, we are able to produce a glazed external door that leads into your garden for natural light, open or closed.
What’s the difference between patio doors and French doors?
Both French doors and patio doors are brilliant options if you require doors that open to the outdoors. The difference lies in their structure. French doors include one frame with two doors within it that open to the outside. Patio doors tend to involve sliding doors, have one or two sliding panels, and stay within the frame for those projects which do not have so much space. French doors are ideal for projects with more space and in turn you get more space to walk through, as well as improved ventilation.
Do French doors swing in or out?
They can do either. Inwards is popular when there is lots of furniture outside. Whilst outwards is preferred by those who want to maximise their indoor space. Either way, they will not get caught up in the wind and slam due to the ultra-modern hinge tension technology we use at Crown Commercial Windows. Reflect on your space to work out what would be best for your project. Alternatively, contact for advice on what might be the best option for you.
Why is it called a French door?
The name was coined from their French roots and the design influenced by the Renaissance period as well as Greek and Italian culture. This period in history was obsessed with light and designs which could offer light in creative ways. At first, they were used all over France before becoming popular all around the world. Classically used as doors leading onto balconies, French doors are now frequently used as entries into gardens. Timeless and classic, French doors help to create an airy and spacious project and come in a variety of designs.
Do I need planning permission for French doors?
Planning permission is not required for French doors if you are replacing doors of the same size or creating a slightly bigger opening. However, this only applies for French doors located at the rear of a property, not ones which are facing the road. Listed buildings and projects within a protected area often have additional restrictions, so be sure to research what you are legally able to do. At Crown Commercial Widows, we have the CERTASS certification which demonstrates that we only install new doors that follow building regulation approval.
Do French doors increase project value?
French doors can add value to your house. This is because French doors allow lots of light to enter your project and create an open-plan feel in your interior, whilst showing off the beauty of your outdoor space. French doors bring everything together. Purchase your French doors with us to ensure yours are high quality, durable, and will last you for years to come.
