Double glazing contains the technology to stop excessive heat loss in its tracks so you won’t waste money on your energy bills. It is also an effective option for blocking out more noise from the outside. Get a quieter, warmer project with our state of the art double glazing options.
Two separate panes in a single window frame make up the double glazing structure. Between the two panes is a gap which we fill with insulating argon gas, which blocks the cold air of the outside from transferring to the inner pane. In addition to the insulation, double glazing lessens condensation from forming on the interior windows which is a regular issue with single glazing.
Our double glazed windows are classified excellent in energy-saving ratings, and we offer Super Energy Efficient glazing for those who are extra energy-conscious. Additionally, we offer triple glazing to customers who want to see big reductions in their energy bills. The investment in double glazing installation will effectively change your every day, by giving you a warmer project with increased value and less hefty heating bills.
With an extra pane involved, double glazing brings with it added security for your project. The frames we use are thicker too, so are difficult to break. Our windows are fitted with high-security hinges and thermally toughened glass so you and your family feel safe in your project.

Is it worth replacing double glazing?
Giving you a very reasonable lifespan of 20-30 years, double glazing will decrease in efficiency as the years pass. If you feel yours aren’t performing their insulative purpose, it may be time for you to replace them. Gas inserted between the two window panes does slowly release over time, causing the sound reduction and heat insulation to dissolve.
Expect significant improvements in blocking draughts and providing insulation when your old windows are replaced with our high-quality double glazing. Assuring you A-rated glass and professional installation, you will find keeping your project warm requires less heating.
Does double glazing reduce condensation?
Yes, our double glazing includes argon gas in between the two glass panes to prevent heat transfer between the inside and outside. Condensation occurs when your project’s warm moist air hits a cold windowpane and forms droplets. The gas makes sure the inside pane remains warm so you will see less condensation.
Condensation may, from time to time, appear on the outside of the glass as the cold air could not pass through to the inner pane. This is a natural, normal occurrence and will disappear as the day warms up.
Gone are the mornings you open your curtains to find your window covered in wet droplets. Double glazing will give you that clear view no matter the temperature contrast. Some rooms which have lower heat or poor ventilation may bring small amounts of condensation but the windows are not the problem here.
What is double glazing?
Traditionally, windows were single glazed meaning that there was only one window pane. In double glazing, the windowpane is doubled to two within one frame. A gap between the two glass panes contains argon gas rather than atmospheric air, as argon is denser than air and thus makes it very hard for heat to transfer between the two panes.
Double glazing is ideal for the energy efficiency of your project, leading you to cheaper heating bills in the colder months.
What is the best gap for double glazing?
We choose argon as our gas filler at Britannia, as its density stops cold air and noise from transferring very well. The gap is the reason noise and air struggle to get through.
From our extensive experience of manufacturing double-glazed windows, we have found a 28mm thick unit with a 20mm gap is the best setup. This is our standard, ensuring all our customers will get the most energy-efficient windows possible. Not only will your heating bills decrease, but you will also be doing your bit to protect the precious environment around us.
Does double glazing reduce noise?
As we know, sound travels in waves making it easy to move around. Single glazing lets in sound effortlessly, but double glazing does not. This is because double glazing contains two glass panes and a substantial argon-filled gap between.
Argon gas has a density which sound finds a lot harder to move through in comparison to the air we breathe. For projects which are situated next to busy roads or customers who appreciate peace, Britannia can offer you laminated Stadip Silence windows. These windows give especially excellent sound insulation without having to install thick glass into your project. Contact us today if you would like to discuss any of these options for your project.
How long does double glazing last?
Lifespans of our double glazing are heavily dependent on how they are treated and maintained. In situations where they receive top-quality care, they can last a lifetime. However, to ensure your windows are long-lasting, you should check the window quality for A-rated energy efficiency. Also, make sure the installation is done professionally and that the window frame is of high quality to prevent draughts.
If you find yourself constantly having to turn up the heating in the winter, this is a telltale sign your double glazing isn’t performing. Another sign is if you touch the inner window pane and it feels very cold.
